Zhang Qingying is the reigning world champion on balance beam and the most complete all-arounder on China's women's team. She arrives in Rotterdam as one of the main contenders in the women's all-around.
Jakarta 2025
Zhang's breakthrough came at the 2025 World Championships. She qualified first on beam and won the final with 15.166, 0.866 ahead of Kaylia Nemour, a very large margin for a beam final. In the all-around she qualified fourth, hit all four routines in the final and won bronze behind Angelina Melnikova and Leanne Wong.
Earlier career
She first made her mark in 2023, winning beam and floor gold and all-around silver at the Asian Championships, and reaching the beam final at the World Championships in Antwerp, where China finished fourth with the team. In 2025 she won the Chinese all-around title.
2026 season
Zhang won team gold at the American Cup's mixed team event, then team and beam gold and all-around silver at the Asian Championships. At the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya she helped China to the team title, took bronze on uneven bars and finished fourth in the all-around.
Rotterdam 2026
China's women compete in the last qualification subdivision, at 21:10 on Monday 19 October. The defending all-around champion Melnikova is absent after being refused a visa, so the all-around title is more open than usual. Zhang's beam is her best apparatus and the one most likely to win her a second world title.
