Kaylia Nemour is the best uneven bars worker in the world. She is the reigning Olympic and world champion on the apparatus, and the first African gymnast to win either title. In Rotterdam she also leads Algeria's first ever women's team at a World Championships.

France to Algeria

Nemour was born and raised in France to a French mother and an Algerian father. After two knee surgeries in 2021, the French national team doctor would not clear her to train, and the French federation wanted her to move to Paris. She declined, and chose to represent Algeria instead. The international federation approved the switch in 2022, but the French federation's objection delayed her international debut for Algeria until 2023.

Results

- 2023 Antwerp Worlds: uneven bars silver, less than a tenth behind China's Qiu Qiyuan. First African medallist at a World Championships. - 2024 Paris Olympics: uneven bars gold with 15.700, ahead of Qiu, and fifth in the all-around. - 2025 Jakarta Worlds: uneven bars gold with 15.566, balance beam silver and fourth in the all-around, 0.069 off a medal. - 2026: African all-around champion and five-time gold medallist at the African Championships, plus all-around, bars and beam gold at the Mediterranean Games.

The Nemour

Nemour's signature release is in the Code of Points under her name: an inbar counter to a reversed laid-out hecht over the high bar, rated G (0.7). Fans often call it the inbar Nabieva.

Rotterdam 2026

Algeria won the 2026 African team title, which earned the country its first women's team place at a World Championships. Nemour is the clear leader of that team and the favourite to retain her world title on uneven bars. Algeria compete in qualification on Monday 19 October.
