The US men won Olympic team bronze in Paris, their first Olympic team medal since 2008, and world team bronze in Antwerp in 2023. With the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Rotterdam is the first chance to make sure the team will be there.
Squad
- Frederick Richard – US all-around champion 2026
- Patrick Hoopes

- Kameron Nelson
- Shane Wiskus
- Yul Moldauer – reserve
Qualification
The first day was difficult. Errors on pommel horse and parallel bars left the United States fourth in the team ranking after four of six subdivisions, on 245.961. There were good scores too. Patrick Hoopes scored 14.666 on pommel horse, third best at that point. Fred Richard scored 14.233 on floor, second best, and 14.133 on horizontal bar. Shane Wiskus scored 14.233 on vault and 14.466 on parallel bars.
The team final
Eight teams reach the final. The US should be among them, but they will need cleaner pommel horse and parallel bars routines to compete with Japan and Great Britain for medals.
LA28 stakes
As host nation, the United States has a guaranteed individual place for each gender at LA28, but not a team place. To send a full team of five to a home Olympics, they must finish top three among eligible nations in the team final on 20 October, or qualify through the 2027 World Championships. See our LA28 qualification guide.
