The men's team final at the World Championships in Rotterdam starts at 19:00 local time on Tuesday 20 October. Eight teams contest the first world team final since 2023 and, more importantly for most of them, for the first three team places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The eight teams

Qualification scores do not carry over. Every team starts the final on zero, but the qualification order shows who arrives in form.

QualifiedTeamQualification total
1Japan254.529
2Great Britain251.460
3WG2249.162
4China247.493
5United States245.961
6Switzerland244.430
7Netherlands242.995
8Colombia242.727

Italy are first reserve, 0.232 behind Colombia.

Where each team is strongest

The apparatus totals from qualification point to where the final could be decided: - Parallel bars: Japan's 44.466 was the best apparatus total of the whole men's qualification. China were next on 43.565, led by Zou Jingyuan's 15.466, the top individual score. - Pommel horse: Great Britain's 42.199 was the best pommel horse total among all 24 teams. - Vault: Great Britain again led with 42.799, built around Jake Jarman. - Rings: China's 41.932 was the top rings total, with Lan Xingyu's 14.733 the best individual mark. - Floor: the United States had the best floor total, 41.766. - Horizontal bar: Japan led with 42.800.

Japan topped two apparatus and had no weak one. That balance, rather than any single routine, is why they qualified three points clear.

A different format

In qualification, four gymnasts per team compete on each apparatus and the best three scores count. In the final it is three up, three count. A fall can no longer be dropped. In qualification Japan absorbed errors on horizontal bar from Daiki Hashimoto and Fusuke Maeda. Tonight they could not.

What is at stake for LA28

The three highest-ranked eligible nations in this final each earn a team place of five gymnasts for Los Angeles 2028. Whether the WG2 team counts as an eligible nation for Olympic places is a matter for World Gymnastics and the IOC, and we will only report allocations once they are certain. For the United States, the 2028 hosts, a top-three finish among eligible nations would secure a full home team two years early.

Results, the medal table and the LA28 tracker will be updated on our Rotterdam 2026 hub after the final. Background on the qualification rules is in our LA28 guide.
