Averina twins dominate Kazan World Cup, Bulgarian group prevents Russian sweep

The Russian city of Kazan hosted the third World Challenge Cup event of this year. An impressive line-up ensured a high-level competition.

European and World Champions Dina and Arina Averina lived up to their reputation, dominating the individual competition by winning gold and silver in the all-around and in the 4 apparatus finals. Victorious in the all-around, with ball, clubs and ribbon, Dina left the hoop title to her twin Arina. Bulgaria’s Katrin Taseva edged her teammate Boryana Kaleyn for the all-around bronze medal. Kaleyn did earn her own bronze medal for her ball routine. Belarus’ Alina Harnasko won two bronze medals, with hoop and clubs while Katsiaryna Halkina stood on the podium for her performance with ribbon.

The Russian group continued the home success in Kazan by winning the all-around gold over Bulgaria and Italy. They also won the title for their 5 balls performance, this time ahead of Bulgaria and Japan. In the 3 +2 final, Bulgaria surpassed the Russians, preventing a Russian sweep of the gold medals. Israel claimed the bronze.
