February 15, 2017The Estonian city of Tartu hosted the popular Miss Valentine tournament, kicking off the rhythmic gymnastics new Olympic cycle.
With competitions in several FIG and non-FIG categories –including aesthetic group gymnastics- it was a busy weekend in Tartu. More than 1200 gymnasts from 37 countries made the trip to celebrate the beauty of rhythmic gymnastics.
In the senior all-around competition Ukraine’s Viktoria Mazur scored 64.750 to easily hold off first-year senior Yulia Isachanka of Belarus (62.250) and home star Carmel Kallemaa (62.200). In the apparatus finals Isachanka showed her potential, taking home the gold medals with ribbon and ball. Kazak Olympian Sabina Ashirbayeva won with clubs while Ukraine’s new senior Olena Diachenko took the hoop title.
In the junior competition, gymnasts born in 2002, 2003 and 2004 competed. Ukraine’s Khrystyna Pohranychna (born in 2003) topped the all-around standing before claiming 3 more gold medals: hoop, ribbon and clubs, leaving only the ball title to Belarussian Yana Striga. These are but 2 of the many new names to remember! Other noteworthy performances came from Russia’s Polina Sycheva, Ukrainian teammates Anastasia Valentirova, Anna Galasyuk and Nikol Krasyuk and Greece’s Miranta Psykou who won silver with ribbon and ball, after finishing fourth all-around.
