The UEG Executive Committee : Gymnastics of the future

June 30, 2014

The members of the Executive Committee of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) met from June 26th to 28th 2014 in Lausanne (SUI) in the headquarters of the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) under the Presidency of Georges Guelzec (FRA).
Since the first meeting of the new EC in January 2014, the members are very enthusiastic to develop European gymnastics. Many ideas and new ways were presented and discussed in the EC. As President Guelzec summarised at the end of the meeting: “We do not only talk about tomorrow’s gymnastics, but already of gymnastics taking place the day after tomorrow”.

The requests of TV to have shorter and better understandable competitions as well as the remarks made by the sponsors are well known and the EC/UEG is ready to make changes, being well aware of the difficulties of this mission. The topic “gymnastics of the future” will be the common thread of the EC until the next UEG Congress to be held in November 2015 in Bratislava (SVK). The UEG member federations will be invited to a colloquium, organised the day before the General Assembly. The analyses and conclusions will be presented during this colloquium.

The Authorities then concentrated on the numerous topics of the agenda, reviewing in particular the four important sports events of the first semester 2014, i.e. the first communication seminar, the European Trampoline Championships in Guimaraes (POR), the ECh Women’s and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics in Sofia (BUL) and the ECh RG in Baku (AZE).

These events were very successful and President Guelzec expressed once again his gratitude to his colleagues for their support and to the Organising Committees, whose work was once again decisive.

Afterwards, the EC discussed the coming events, the ECh TeamGym in Reykjavik (ISL) from October 13th to 19th, the first edition of the “European Gym for Youth Challenge” taking place in Helsingborg on July 12th, right before the 9th EUROGYM and the Golden Age Gym Festival in Toulouse (FRA) from September 28th to October 3rd.

The EC followed with interest the presentation of the preparation of the first European Games. The competition programme was once again modified in order to be certain that the product would be easy to follow by all spectators, in the hall as well as in front of their TV.

During the meeting, the following decisions were made:
The second edition of the UEG communication seminar will be held in 2016
The modifications of the UEG Medical Guidelines were approved
The modifications of the Guidelines « Ceremonies during UEG events » were approved
The 2015 ECh ACRO were entrusted to the NF GER. They will be organised from September 23rd to October 5th in Riesa.

The next meetings of the President’s Board and the Executive Committee will be held from September 11th to 13th in Lausanne (SUI).
