The President's Note N° 12

October 20, 2015

By Georges Guelzec, UEG President

Dear friends,

In only a few days, on 23 October, the 46th World Championships in Artistic Gymnasticswill begin in Glasgow, organised by our friends from British Gymnastics. European gymnastics is about to rise to a new challenge, to write new pages in its long and shining history. The UEG in its entirety, which I have the honour and privilege to preside, its authorities, its member federations, everyone is mobilised behind its elite and assure them of its full support.

The meeting is in effect strategic as it’s qualifying for the Games of the 31st Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) next year. More than 500 athletes and thousands of spectators are expected in Glasgow. That’s also another challenge, complex, delicate, sensible, for the organisers to whom I address my best wishes and at the same time I express my admiration, having known the pangs of such an enterprise myself.

With our gymnasts

In Glasgow, the European gymnasts will be present in large numbers. Of the 87 FIG federations registered, 37 (43%) are European. Among this elite are several veterans. Crowned and experienced athletes, maybe lacking an Olympic consecration. They will be the role models for the new faces, young, talented and ambitious gymnasts who are the bearers of the values of the gymnastics of tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

To you, gymnasts, I address my wishes of success, I congratulate you already for your sacrifices, your efforts, for representing us at these Worlds. I associate your coaches, your staff, your directors to this message and I am pleased to see you in Glasgow.

Your turn to play now and good luck.

With my compliments.

Georges GUELZEC, UEG President
