The President's Note N° 1 2016

January 12, 2016

By Georges Guelzec, UEG President

Dear friends,

I wish you, your families and your loved ones a Happy New Year 2016!

And what a year! An impressive number of events appears on our calendar and for the elite of our gymnasts they will be a synonym for experiences they will cherish all their life.

First and foremost I think of the Games of the 31st Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro. The European gymnasts who have already qualified or will qualify during the test event in April will be our ambassadors. They all bear our hopes. I am looking forward to cheering them on during our European Trampoline Championships in Valladolid (ESP), in March/April, the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Bern (SUI) in May/June and the European Rhythmic Championships in Holon (ISR) in June.

With them, behind them, are thousands of European fans, all gymnasts, who will rally to encourage them, to support them and they will show their enthusiasm in a spectacular way by participating, in July, in the 10th edition of EUROGYM, organised in Ceske Budejovice (CZE).

2016 will also be a major rendezvous for clubs and gymnasts participating in the 11th European TeamGym Championships and for our Senior citizens who will under no circumstances miss the 5th edition of the Golden Age Gym Festival. Both events will be organised by our Slovenian friends respectively in Maribor in October (12-15) and in Portoroz (2-7).

The calendar of our Aerobic and Acrobatic gymnasts is determined by the FIG World Championships organised respectively in Incheon (KOR) in June and in Putian (CHN) in April. I look forward to their participation and success on Asian soil.

On a more administrative but nevertheless sensible level, I would like to come back to the conclusions of our recent debate in Bratislava, dedicated to the representation of European gymnastics within the FIG Authorities which, please allow me to remind you, will be renewed on October 20th – 22nd in Tokyo, during the 81st FIG Congress.

I know that each and every one of you keeps in mind the strategic stakes of these elections and I am pleased to lead a united, solid European Union ready to assume its responsibilities on the highest level. We will have the possibility to refine our strategy when we meet, following your request, on June 4th in Bern, for a debate in which you will be numerous to participate. Thank you very much.

Also in Bern, we will organise a new seminar dedicated to crisis communication and the way to master the contact with the media. An important panel will be waiting for you. Be present, you won’t regret it!

See you soon! With my compliments,

Georges Guelzec

UEG President
