The London Olympic Games - Excellent European achievement for Gymnastics

August 14, 2012

We were waiting for this event for 4 years and now it already belongs to the past … We lived the rhythm of the Olympics and of Gymnastics during 16 days.

These Games represented a fantastic showcase for gymnastics, allowing the whole world to discover, rediscover and speak about our disciplines MAG, WAG, TRA and RG.

It’s time to take stock of the performances and the results of our European athletes in Gymnastics; one thing is clear, it is excellent.

London 2012 was a really good Olympic Games edition for gymnastics:

Europe, including its 4 Olympic gymnastic disciplines, collected a total of 30 medals of a total of 54, whereas in 2008 we only won 23.

In Rhythmic Gymnastics the results are the most conclusive ones as 100 % of the podiums are European (6 medals). In 2008, the silver medal for groups went to China.

In Trampoline, it is the silver medallist Dmitry USHAKOV who allows Russia to stand besides China and Canada as victorious nations. In 2008 in Beijing, Europe had no representative on the podiums, neither in men’s, nor in women’s category.

Finally, in Artistic Gymnastics, 23 of a total of 42 medals are European, thus more than half; it is far better than 4 years ago in particular in women’s artistic gymnastics where our European gymnasts won 7 medals more than in Beijing.

Congratulations to the following nations : RUS (12 medals), GBR (4 medals), GER (3 medals), ROU (3 medals), BLR (2 medals), ITA (2 medals), HUN (1 medal), NED (1 medal), UKR (1 medal) and FRA (1 medal).

See you in Rio in 2016… But before of course at our European Championships taking place in a few months.
