Welcome to the 7th edition of the TeamGym Newsletter!

I hope you have had a successful first quarter of the new year and you are in your starting blocks for the 12th European Championships, to be held from October 17th – 20th in the city of Odivelas in Portugal.

Europe’s best seniors and juniors will then be the focus of the entire TeamGym community. We expect an increased number of teams compared to both Maribor 2016 and Reykjavik 2014. The directives will be published in mid-April.

I am pleased to welcome four new members to the Technical Committee for TeamGym: Bianca Franzoi (AUT), Max Andersen (DEN), Pauline Ange (FRA) and Peter Tranckle (GBR). I am also happy to count on the experience of Petr Gryga (CZE) and Heli Lemmetty (FIN) who will continue their great work in this cycle. The new committee met in Stockholm (SWE) in mid-February to start exploring goals and objectives for the 2018-2021 cycle and plan for all the events and activities during 2018.

Of course, we will keep you updated on this very exciting route ahead!

From 23 to 25 March, Great Britain hosted a level 3 floor course at Reddam House, Wokingham, attended by participants from seven countries. This was the first level 3 coaching course on floor following the update of the course syllabus.

Led by Swedish expert Anders Frisk, this course offered an excellent opportunity to develop knowledge and skills as a TeamGym floor coach. Both theoretical and practical sessions allowed the participants to broaden their horizon.

Watch out for more courses to be announced during 2018.

In April we will re-launch, the International Coaching Internship for TeamGym (ICIT). This is an exchange programme to develop coaches and clubs with the aim to find coaching placements for TeamGym coaches to gather experience throughout Europe. The overall objectives are to inspire, to give valuable experience to the coaches of the future and to invest in the future of TeamGym.

We’ll be interviewing several of last year’s participants in the next weeks, so keep your eye out for their stories!

Our new Code of Points came into effect on January 1st, 2018, and so far, we held two judges’ courses, one in Prague (CZE) and one at Lingvallen in Ängelholm (SWE). In total 57 candidates representing 15 federations have participated, some of them re-validating their previous TeamGym brevet but also many new judges participating in the brevet course for the first time.

On popular demand, we are now holding a third judges’ course on May 9th – 13th in Tallinn (EST). Interested? Contact your Federation! But hurry up, the deadline for registration is on April 9th.

This year, exceptionally, we will not organise a training camp. We are exploring new locations and ideas, so we can be back next year with a new and improved format!

After the two courses, the TC TeamGym has prepared a document with important clarifications to the new Code. These clarifications will shortly be sent to your national federation. In case you have any questions, we do recommend that you contact one of your TeamGym brevet judges or submit a question to our TeamGym Helpdesk. Answers to common questions will also be published on the UEG webpage.

Finally, I would like to mention that we had the opportunity to present TeamGym to the FIG’s Executive Committee on March 1. This first presentation aimed at introducing TeamGym as a competitive discipline and explaining our both popular and growing sport.

We are looking forward to intercontinental collaboration in the next few years to come.
