Spotlight of Guadalajara on … Azerbaijan!

May 22, 2018

In just 10 days this year’s Rhythmic Europeans kick off

The Azerbaijani group has been on fire lately. At the World Cup in Guadalajara the ladies placed 5th all-around and won the bronze medal for their wonderful 3 balls and 2 ropes exercise. At the next World Cup, in Portimao (POR), the group returned home with a complete set of medals: gold with 3 balls and 2 ropes, silver with 5 hoops and bronze in the all-around. Now focus is on the upcoming European Championships!

Backed up by her teammates, captain Siyana Vasileva took the time to talk to us.

UEG: How long have you been training together as a group?

Vasileva: Actually, this year is the first one! We had to adapt a bit but it went ok as we are all of a similar age and we train together every day, about 8 hours a day.

UEG: You are known for your beautiful outfits and choreography. How long does it take to make new routines and who is involved?

Vasileva: To make one routine takes from 2 days to 1 week. Our head coach Mariana Vasileva comes up with the routines and we try to help her with the music and with ideas. We can give her our opinion but she is the one who decides.

UEG: What is your favourite routine this year?

Vasileva: I think we like them both but my favourite, as the captain of the team, is with ropes and balls.

UEG: What is your goal for the European Championships?

Vasileva: Of course, we are going for a medal! We will try to do it.

UEG: What are your long-term goals?

Vasileva: Our main goal is the Olympic Games. We want to participate there and show our best work.

Thank you Siyana! Good luck in Guadalajara ladies!
