June 12, 2015

Tonight’s the night: Opening Ceremony of the first European Games! UEG had a quick chat with Romanian talent Laura Jurca

Laura is very popular with the women’s artistic gymnastics fans. She won two silver medals last year at the junior European Championships and she participated in the Youth Olympics where she qualified to all finals but mistakes kept her off the podium. Turning senior this year, she competed at the Europeans and the European Games are her second big competition.

UEG: What are your expectations for the European Games?

Jurca: I will try to do my best routine for the team and to reach the podium in the final.

UEG: Do you prepare any new skills or have a new routine?

Jurca: I have some new skills for this competition and for the upcoming World Championships.

UEG: You have competed at the Youth Olympics last year. What's the biggest difference for you between participating in a multi-sports event like these Games and in a normal European Championships?

Jurca: Yes. I participated in the Youth Olympics Games. The differences between European Championships and European Games many. Among the most important are the large numbers of sports events in this competition and the large numbers of athletes all with the desire to climb to the podium.

UEG: What's life in the Athletes' Village like?

Jurca:  In the Athletes Village we can meet people from different countries and with different cultures, we can make new friends and spending free time with joy and relax.

UEG: Who / what should spectators definitely watch?

Jurca: Spectators come to watch the evolution of the favorites, to support them and to encourage them in the contest, to enjoy every moments of the competition.

UEG: If you get a chance to watch another sport, which one would you choose?

Jurca: I love tennis and I would like to watch a tennis tournament.

Multumim Laura! Best of luck here in Baku!
