Soldatova beats Dina Averina in Kazan

August 28, 2018

The last World Cup of the season was held in Kazan (RUS) last weekend

In an exciting all-around final, Dina Averina took the lead at the halfway stage but teammate Aleksandra Soldatova came back strong on day 2 to tie the World Champion for the top all-around score. A tiebreaker was needed to declare the winner. And based on higher execution scores, the gold medal went to Soldatova who claims her third all-around World Cup victory of the year. Averina took her revenge in apparatus finals, sweeping all 4 gold medals! Israel’s Linoy Ashram continued her successful season taking the all-around bronze medal and four silver medals in apparatus finals. Soldatova added three bronze medals to her collection while the bronze on hoop went to Bulgaria’s Boryana Kaleyn.

In the group competition Italy clinched the all-around victory ahead of Russia after yet another tiebreaker while Russia claimed both gold medals in apparatus finals. Bulgaria won the bronze medal in the all-around before adding silver with 5 hoops.
