On 23 June Europe’s age-eligible junior gymnasts will aim to qualify for the third summer Youth Olympic Games. Only boys born in 2001 or 2002 and girls born in 2003 can compete. The best 17 in each category, but limited to 1 gymnast per country, advance to the Games which be held from 6 to 18 October in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires.

In the men’s competition, 54 gymnasts from 29 federations will compete. Most well-known are Russia’s Sergei Naidin, the 2016 junior European Champion on pommel horse and his teammate Aleksandr Kartsev who medalled at last year’s European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) as did Great Britain’s Jake Jarman.

In the women’s competition, 44 gymnasts from 25 federations have registered. Among the competitors are Russia’s Ksenia Klimenko, the 2017 EYOF all-around gold medallist, EYOF medallists Elisa Iorio and Asia D’Amato (ITA), Célia Serber (FRA), Amelie Morgan (GBR), Emelie Petz (GER) and finalists Bianka Schermann (HUN) and Anastasia Bachynska.

The starting order was drawn this morning at the UEG Headquarters by WTC member Christine Frauenknecht (SUI). Check it out here!
