February 10, 2014

With three gold medals in apparatus finals, Marina Durunda (AZE) was the most successful gymnast at the 20th annual Miss Valentine Tournament, held over last weekend in Tartu (EST).
M. Durunda posted the top scores with the Hoop (17.417 points), Clubs (17.167) and Ribbon (17.017). An All-around tournament was not held this year.
Uzbekistan's Anastasia Serdyukova was the only other gymnast to earn three medals, taking silver with the Ball (16.9) and bronzes with the Ribbon (15.883) and Clubs (16.567). 2012 Olympic finalist Neta Rivkin (ISR) finished in the top four on three apparatus, claiming silver with the Clubs (16.767) and bronze with the Ball (16.65).
Ukraine's Viktoriia Mazur won the Ball (17.167) while teammate Anastasia Mulmina (UKR) added silver with the Ribbon (16.0).
With silver for her Hoop routine (17.083), Anna Charopa (BLR) gave her country its only medal of the senior women's competition.

M. Durunda, the reigning Azerbaijani national champion, is one of the new stars of Azerbaijani Rhythmic Gymnastics following the retirement of multiple World medallist Aliya Garayeva. The Ukrainian-born 16-year-old grew up on Cyprus before accepting an invitation to compete for Azerbaijan in 2012. At her first World Championships last August in Kiev (UKR), she finished 16th All-around and fifth with the Ribbon.
In the junior women's competition, Ana Luiza Filiorianu (ROU) captured, like Durunda, three golds: with the Ball (14.650), the Clubs (14.850) and the Ribbon (15.350). Zhala Piriyeva (AZE) was the junior champion with the hoop (14.567).
