Looking back on Montpellier with ... Sanne Wevers (NED)

April 23, 2015

UEG had a talk with Sanne Wevers about her European Championships

Sanne won the bronze medal on uneven bars last weekend in Montpellier (FRA). She also made beam final where she placed eight.

UEG: Congratulations with your bronze medal on bars! Did you expect this? What was your first reaction?

Wevers: Thanks! No, I didn’t expect it. In the lead-up to these European Championships I focused on two events, bars and beam. The aim was to reach the final on beam. On bars I just wanted to perform a clean exercise because the Dutch team can use this. So it was actually a surprise to qualify for both finals. To go home with a bronze medal on bars is super cool!

UEG: How do you look back on these Europeans?

Wevers: This was my 13th big tournament and my first European medal. These Europeans I will never forget. After the 2014 World Championships I went through a difficult period but luckily I continued to train hard with my twin sister Lieke and I see this bronze medal as a reward for all the hard work.

UEG: What is your opinion of the tournament itself?

Wevers: The European Championships were well organised. I personally like the venue. I like it when the audience sits close to the floor, you can really feel the energy! I didn’t see much of the city of Montpellier but I heard that it definitely is worth it to return one day as a tourist ;)

UEG: What are your expectations for the next Championships?

Wevers: Now that I’m back home I mainly want to work on my D-score on bars. On beam I need to get my routine back and then I hope that in the future I will compete with the world’s best on both events.

Thanks a lot Sanne! All the best for the future!
