Live ACRO together! The Acrobatic Gymnastics Newsletter N° 7

November 16, 2017

By Carine Charlier, UEG's TC-ACRO President

With an amazing two weeks of Acrobatic Europeans behind us, I’d like to express my gratitude, and that of our entire Technical Committee, to all the gymnasts who participated and showed us their skills and talent. They put on such an incredible display that promoted our discipline around the world and onto the Olympic Channel! Thank you also to the Polish Gymnastics Federation and the members of the Local Organising Committee for providing a warm welcome and hosting a great event. UEG’s Global scoring partner SmartScoring added their spark by inventing a superb scoring feature that brought suspense to the gymnasts and the audience while also providing a livestream of the entire competition. Well done! In this Newsletter we of course look back on the action of #ACRO2017 in Rzeszow (POL). Furthermore we have exciting news about the second edition of the European Games, in May 2019 in the Belarussian capital Minsk, and we are pleased to announce the dates of next year’s training camp! Read all about it below…

The Polish Gymnastics Federation hosted both the European Age Group competitions and the European Championships for juniors and seniors, in two consecutive weeks, in Rzeszow’s Hala Podpromie. Many great performances highlighted these events and I’m pleased to see many different countries on the podium. In the Age Groups 8 countries returned home with medals while for the juniors and seniors this number increased to 10. So many talented gymnasts from a wide variety of countries is essential for the promotion of acrobatics worldwide!

Russia’s Marina Chernova and Georgiy Pataraya continued their domination of the mixed pair competition, showcasing incredible difficulty and impressive stability. They are joined by Israel’s men’s group as the 2015 European Champions who managed to successfully defend their triple crown! Want to know our favourite moments? Find out in our highlights article

Missed it or wanting to relive it? We are uploading all videos onto the UEG’s Youtube channel so you can watch it all again! Like, comment and share as much as you want!

For the third year in a row, our annual training camp will be held in the superb facilities of Kamchia on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. We have confirmed the dates:30 July to 5 August 2018.  Internationally renowned coaches will guide you through the wonderful world of acrobatics. For coaches a separate course will be conducted to give you even more knowledge of our discipline.

Kamchia provides us with excellent facilities for acro. Another plus is the warm climate, the constant sun and proximity to the sea that make this a true summer holiday despite all the hard work.

A camp not to miss! Want to join us? Contact your federation to get more information!

We are proud to confirm that after the huge success of Acrobatic Gymnastics at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015, we are part of the second edition as well! Like in Baku, 2 categories will compete: the mixed pairs and the women’s groups, in the senior age division. Countries have only one chance to qualify, and that is during the 2018 World Championships in Antwerp (BEL) in April next year!

Hope you all enjoyed the European Championships and I look for to seeing you at one of our UEG events in the future!
