Live ACRO together! The Acrobatic Gymnastics Newsletter N° 2

September 10, 2015

See you soon in Riesa!

Dear friends,

I hope that the summer holiday met all your expectations and I am looking for to seeing you all on the floor again. In only a few weeks it’s competition time again, in Riesa, Germany, with the 27th European Championships, which are associated with the 11th European junior championships and the 8th European Age Group Competitions. We are looking forward to this important event, in the magnificent Sachsen Arena, which offers gymnasts the perfect conditions to demonstrate their remarkable talents. We saw this yet again during the drawing of the lots, organised on site on 7 July.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the DTB, the German Acrobatic Federation and the organisers of FVG for their warm welcome and efficient collaboration.

Riesa has twice hosted Acrobatic World Championships:

in 1996 and in 2002, flying the colours of the IFSA and then FIG after their fusion, respectively. The city and the whole region are passionately devoted to sports in general, and gymnastics in particular, and its inhabitants participate in great numbers at any event.

We all still have the amazing images from Baku in our head, where Acrobatic Gymnastics embarked on a historic adventure. It’s with this in mind and with the same excitement that I impatiently await the opening of the 2015 European Championships.

In Azerbaijan our discipline astounded a large audience, thereby increasing its popularity across the continent. This success belongs first of all to the gymnasts who I want to congratulate once again. It also belongs to the format that UEG initiated with an alternating competition. Rhythmic and Acrobatic Gymnastics combined their characteristics, their personalities, their respective talents to offer an original show of high quality which will bring success again in the future. Innovation is one of the key attributes of our vision for the future of gymnastics.

With our heartfelt messages and see you very soon in Riesa!
