Let's Fly! The Trampoline Newsletter N° 6

December 13, 2017

By Vladimir Zeman, TRA-TC President

Dear friends

As the year 2017 comes to an end, I’d like to look back on our annual training camp in Cascais (POR) where we had the honour to welcome Olympic Champion Uladzislau Hancharou and Vice-Olympic Champion Bryony Page, and at the World Champions and World Age Group Competitions held in November in Sofia where several of the UEG Federations excelled and returned home with one or more medals. At the Congress my Technical Committee and I were re-elected and we have the pleasure of welcoming Konrad Bojakowski in the TC. Together we aim to promote and further develop Trampoline gymnastics and all its disciplines throughout Europe. Of course, we have already started preparing the upcoming European Championships in Baku (AZE) as we’ll present to you below!

Of the 13 countries that managed to jump onto the medal table, more than half of them (7!) were European! Russia equalled China for the most medals collected, although China did lead the medal table as they won more gold. Belarus rounded out the top three with two gold medals, with Great Britain in fourth. Denmark won a silver and a bronze in men’s tumbling while France, Portugal and Sweden all won one bronze medal.I am proud to see this variety of countries returning home with medals, and the spread over all 4 Trampoline disciplines. Zalomin, Piatrenia, Browne, Colebeck, Korobeynikova, Sjoberg, Wesch, Hancharou, Ushakov and many others showed impressive skills that will be on display again in April at our European Championships!

From 30 July to 6 August, the beautiful Portuguese city of Cascais proved to be the home of Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling as we organised our annual training camp. With 53 gymnasts and 27 coaches representing 12 federations, the camp was a huge success as the gymnasts jumped and tumbled to new heights. And all under the expert eyes of Irina Karavaeva, Olga Vlasova, Paul Greaves, Luis Nunes and Vadim Skakun. But the highlight for many of the participants was meeting and being coached by Olympic Champion Uladzislau Hancharou and Vice-Olympic Champion Bryony Page! An incredible opportunity for this next generation to learn from the very best, the idols and heroes!

At the end of October I travelled to Baku (AZE) to meet with the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation led by its Secretary-General, and new UEG President, Farid Gayibov, and UEG’s Global Partner SmartScoring. We discussed the layout of the hall, the running of the competition, the facilities available to the delegations and the sports presentation. The venue, the National Gymnastics Arena, is no stranger to hosting high level gymnastics competitions like shown in 2015 when the gymnastics part of the inaugural European Games was held there. I can already tell you we are working on some great innovations … The 26th European Championships in Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling will be spectacular!

After two years of hard work, discussions and meetings, we are proud to present … the TrampOnline Platform!

This Project, designed and managed by my Technical Committee, is built upon the experience of several gymnasts, coaches and judges around the world and it is funded and supported by the UEG and FIG as a development project. The Platform aims to provide its users with an overview about diverse features about Trampoline Gymnastics and addressed different audiences, from very basic first approaches to this spectacular sport to top-level competition skills. In order to do so, within this site you will find information about coaching and judging, and also materials regarding safety and medical issues.

In the near future, online education resources will be developed so you can test your knowledge process and challenge your learning evolution.
