Italian ladies top Flanders International Team Challenge

June 13, 2017

GymFed organised the second edition of the FIT Challenge in Ghent (BEL)

On Friday and Saturday the junior and senior gymnasts competed in their qualification round that determined the team and all-around ranking. Italy impressed winning both the junior and senior team title. Their juniors swept the all-around medals while Belgium’s Rune Hermans won the senior all-around over teammate Maellyse Brassart and France’s Lorette Charpy.

On Sunday a special team final was held, on each event 2 juniors and 2 seniors competed, either for their country or for their mixed team. Some highlights of the afternoon were Asia D’Amato’s 14.400 on vault and Desiree Carofiglio tumbling to 13.633 on floor to secure the title for Italy. France grabbed the silver medal with a 14.233 by Carolann Heduit on vault and 13.500 for Juliette Bossu on floor. Belgium’s recently crowned European Champion on bars Nina Derwael performed another fabulous routine, scoring a massive 14.800 to clinch the bronze for her country.
