In our final Federation Friday, the Turkish Gymnastics Federation talks about their development and improvement in the last 4 years

As Turkish Gymnastics Federation, our first aim is to work continuously to achieve success. In last 4 years Turkish Gymnastics has rapidly grown. In order to achieve this growth, various improvements have been made in Turkey.

Turkey consist of seven districts and 81 cities. Our main target is to spread gymnastics all over the cities in Turkey. In 2012, Ministry of Youth and Sport obliged to have at least one gymnastics coach in 81 cities. Our coach numbers which was 399 in 2012, now has risen to 2.639.

In 2011, we had 8.910 female licenced gymnasts and 6.419 male gymnasts. In 2016, these numbers increased to 31.425 female and 18.934 male and also our club numbers which was 89 in 2012, now has risen to 211.

With the growth of gymnastics family in Turkey, we must construct new gymnastics facilities all over the country supported by investments made by the Goverment and Regional Youth and Sports Provincial Directorates. We already have İzmir Halkapınar Gymnastic Hall where the 2014 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships were held, Yomra Gymnastic Hall where EYOF 2011 and Gymnasiade 2016 were held and also have many seperate Gymnastic halls. Mersin Gymnastic Hall where the 2013 Mediterranean Games and the 2016 Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup were held. As a result, it is a sport center which has international standards. It has a big capacity that every year, we can organise together the National Championships for Rhythmic Gymnastics, Artistic Gymnastics, Aerobic Gymnastics and Trampoline Gymnastics. Mersin Gymnastics Hall also offers camping facilities for mentioned disciplines. Delegations who attend to Mersin for camping can stay in Olympic Village near the Hall.

These developments and improvements of course, have began to show us a lot of success. Especially, at the Rio 2016 Test Event Ferhat ARICAN won Silver Medal on Parallel Bars and  got quota for Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He is the first male gymnast who obtain quota for the Olympic Games. On the other hand, Tutya YILMAZ performed very well and got finals as a reserve gymnast on Beam despite her young age in Rio Olympic Games. Umit SAMILOGLU is in the first place in World Challenge Cup Ranking List on High Bar. Ibrahim COLAK also in the first place in World Challenge Cup Ranking List on Rings. In addition to these in Aerobic Gymnastics, Ayse Begum ONBASI is in the first place at the 7th Aerobic Gymnastics World Age Group Competition.

Thanks to our technical committees, coaches and gymnasts’ families, our younger gymnasts train hard in all disciplines to achieve success in international arena.

In 2016 FIG Congress, our president Mr. Suat CELEN elected as a FIG council member. His first aim is to contribute to develop European and World Gymnastics.

We will continue our hard work to get Gold Medals in all disciplines in Gymnastics and organise more international events in Turkey.
