This week we focus on Switzerland. With its strong gymnastics tradition and as the organiser of the 2016 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in its capital Bern, the Swiss Gymnastics Federation highlights their members, stand-out gymnasts and events!

The Swiss Gymnastics Federation (FSG) was created in 1832. So, it is the oldest and with more than 370’000 members also the biggest sportive association of Switzerland. Since 180 years, the FSG is involved for health and preoccupied with keeping its population in good health.

Olympic disciplines:

Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline (until now Switzerland has won 48 gymnastics medals at the OG)

The artistic men’s and women’s gymnasts are often successful on the international level. Some examples of successful Swiss gymnasts:

  • Giulia Steingruber (All-around European Champion 2015, 2 time vault European Champion 2013/2014)
  • Christian Baumann (Vice-European Champion on parallel bars 2015)
  • Pablo Brägger (3rd on floor at the European Championships 2015)
  • Lucas Fischer (Vice-European Champion on parallel bars 2013)
  • Ariella Kaeslin (European Champion on vault 2009, 3rd on vault at the European Championships 2011)
  • Donghua Li (Olympic Champion on pommel horse 1996)

Mass sport:


  • Exercises with the apparatus, athletics, aerobic, gymnastics, national gymnastics, Rhönrad and games (ball in the basket, volleyball, Indiaca), acrobatic, fitness
  • Annual budget: 16-20 million of Swiss francs


Many Swiss gymnastics Championships for individuals and clubs are organised each years



The Federal Festival of Gymnastics (FFG) is the biggest sportive event of Switzerland with more than 60’000 participants; it is organised every 6 years.



«Gymotion», Hallenstadion Zurich:

Every two years, the FSG proposes a unique show with the best gymnastics club of Switzerland, they are presenting in music – played live by an orchestra – the different facets of the clubs of gymnastics.



Regularly, the FSG is represented by delegations at international events like the «World Gymnaestrada», the «Gym for Life World Challenge», the «Golden Age Gym Festival» or the «Eurogym».




As organisers of important manifestations, the FSG regularly attracts the attention of the international public.

Swiss Cup Zürich, Hallenstadion Zurich:

Since 30 years, we organise the Swiss Cup Zurich, an international competition for pairs in artistic gymnastics.

The Swiss Federation of Gymnastics has the honour to be the organiser of the European Artistic Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics Championships for juniors and seniors in Bern which will be held from May 25th to June 5th, 2016
