Federation Friday: Russia

Federation Friday: Russia

February 12, 2016

This week Russia is in the spotlight and their Artistic Gymnastics Federation has chosen to present its Master-classes with Olympic Champions!

In Russia, on the last Saturday of October, we celebrate the all-Russian day of gymnastics.
For several years in a row, Olympic Champions Alexei Nemov, Elena Zamolodchikova, Svetlana Khorkina, Elena Shevchenko, Aliya Mustafina and many other famous gymnasts as Anton Golotsutskov, Konstantin Pluzhnikov, Emin Garibov, Aleksei Bondarenko conduct master classes for young gymnasts in Moscow and other Russian cities.

The first master-class of Alexey Nemov was held in Moscow in October 2013. This event has become an annual event. Gymnasts travel to many different Russian cities in order to share their experiences with young athletes. Olympians visited Chita, Togliatti, Samara, Kazan, etc.  About 5000 young gymnasts were able to visit such master-classes and talk to the Champions.

“To love gymnastics — that is half the job”, said the Olympic champion Nikolay Kryukov. “But you must deserve and confirm this love. We can show how to make the elements, we can share advice. The rest depends on you — on how you execute the assignments of coaches, what is your own attitude to the matter.”

“I believe that you're very lucky, guys! To be honest, I don’t remember that Olympic Champions visited our sport school in my childhood, but I'm from Togliatti”, said four-time Olympic champion and Vice-President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation Alexei Nemov. Even Olympic Champions Elena Zamolodchikova and Elena Shevchenko can’t remember such facts, although they are from Moscow. “We're glad we came, we saw talented kids with whom we definitely need to continue working.”

For some young gymnasts this master-class with Champions is a lesson where they find a real dream, and for the others — it is another confirmation of their desire: I want to be a champion!
