This week the spotlight shines on FLGYM, the Gymnastics Federation of Luxemburg

Dear Friends

The Board of Directors of the Gymnastics Federation of Luxemburg is pleased to inform you on its activities.

Our Board of Directors is composed of 13 members, among them 1 president, 1 secretary general and 1 treasurer.

In order to guarantee the good running we have 9 commissions and 7 work groups.

34 male judges and 52 female judges belong to our staff.

On 31.12.2015 our Federation had 6970 licensed members in 44 different clubs, i.e. women, men, mixed and leisure activities. 

Our Federation has three main sections:

General gymnastics, artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics.

 

General Gymnastics:

A first competition license can be given to gymnasts who are not yet 9 years old. These gymnasts belong to the section « minis »

The gymnasts are divided in the following sections:

a)      Minis, girls and boys                      up to 9 years

b)      Juniors, girls and boys                   up to 14 years

c)      Seniors, women and men             from 15 years

Gymnastics for all is gymnastics on traditional apparatus as vault, uneven bars, beam and floor for female gymnasts and floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar for the male gymnasts.

Gymnastics for all is also the ballets of the female sections we find in each gymnastics Gala organized by clubs, as well as trampoline and mini trampoline practiced in most clubs as well as the pyramids, a still topical pastime.

Gymnastics starts also in Luxemburg with mums/dads and babies. When doing their first steps, the kids learn to get to know their body in a new way.

Competitions and official events in General Gymnastics:

·        Individual Gymnastics Championships: open to all gymnasts who do not do artistic gymnastics, as well as for former internationals

·        The Luxemburg Cup « Minis », Juniors » and « Seniors »: open competition for all male and female teams.

·        Championships for sections :Championships for different sections

·        All Sports: competition with a unique character as gymnastics, athletics and swimming are represented.

Artistic gymnastics:

With regard to artistic gymnastics in Luxemburg, the gymnasts are selected during tests. The training hall is situated in the National Sports Institute of Luxemburg.

Nearly all artistic gymnasts who belong to the national junior and senior team study in the « Sportlycée » situated at the same venue.

Competitions and official events in Artistic Gymnastics:

·        National championships

·        National championships of age categories

·        National championships on apparatus.

·        Competitions and tournaments abroad

On December 5th, 2015 were held the last national championships.

Referring to the girls, our Luxemburg champion is Christelle Timis

And referring to the boys, the title was won by Tom Steichen

 

 

Our members within the UEG

The Luxemburg federation is very pleased that Paolo Frising, former president of our federation is member of the UEG.

 

Marie-Paule Hoffmann was elected member of the UEG in 1993 in Lausanne and from 2002 to 2007 she was president of the WTC; when she retired in 2007, she became a UEG Honorary member.

On March 13th, 2015 during the general assembly of the COSL, she was elected member of the Board of Directors of the Olympic and Sports Committee of Luxemburg. She assumes also the presidency of the athletes commission and will be member of the technical board of the COSL.

 

The third Luxembourger having worked for the UEG is François Muller. He was one of the founder members of the European Union of Gymnastics, president of its Control Authority from 1982 to 2001 and since 2001 he is Honorary member of the UEG.

The Gymnastics Federation of Luxemburg presents its congratulations to

Mr Jos André ROMERSA

the oldest Olympian from Luxemburg, member of the artistic gymnastics national team from 1934 to 1947, for his 100th anniversary !!
