July 8, 2016

This week the Lithuanian Gymnastics Federation introduces us to Dalia Kutkaite, the nation’s best ever gymnast, and invites you to the 2nd Dalia Kutkaite Cup Rhythmic Gymnastics tournament

The Lithuanian Gymnastics and Sports Federation (LGSF) was established on May 27th, 1922 and is one of the oldest federations in Lithuania. The main activities of LGSF at that time were encouraging a healthy lifestyle and organising mass sports festivals. Gymnastics competitions were not held. The first Lithuanian artistic gymnastics championship took place in 1947, while 1950 saw the first Lithuanian rhythmic gymnastics championship.

In 1992, once Lithuania had regained national independence, the Lithuanian Gymnastics Federation (LGF) was established and accepted into the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) and European Union of Gymnastics (UEG).

In 2002, the Aerobic Gymnastics 7th FIG World Championship took place in Klaipėda.

In 2015, the Lithuanian Gymnastics Federation organised the first "Dalia Kutkaitė Cup" rhythmic gymnastics tournament.

Dalia Kutkaitė is the most famous Lithuanian gymnast. She was coached by E. V. Kubilienė. In the 1982 European championship in Stavanger she became all-around champion and came first in clubs and ribbon and second in hoop. In the 1984 European championship in Vienna she came second in ball and hoop. In the 1983 world championship in Strasbourg she came third in clubs and hoop. From 1991 to 2014 she resided in Spain. She trained the Spanish national youth team in 1998-99, the Andalusian regional team from 1991 to 2006, the Spanish national team in 1999-2000 and was the Spanish national team's coach in the XXVII OG (2000, Sydney, Australia).
