European artistic gymnasts aiming for YOG participation

Preview of the Youth Olympic Games qualifying competition in Baku (AZE)

Tomorrow, on the international Olympic Day, 50 boys from 27 countries and 44 girls representing 25 federations will battle for their entry ticket to the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games which will be held in October in Buenos Aires (ARG).

To be eligible to participate in theseYouth Olympic Games, the male gymnastsmust be born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2002. The girls have to be born between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2003.

The one and only qualifying moment will be held on Saturday at Baku’s National Gymnastics Arena where the gymnasts will compete from 10am to 8.30 pm according to the following schedule:

10:00 – 13:15     Subdivision 1

14:00 – 17:00    Subdivision 2

17:30 – 20:30    Subdivision 3

20:30                   Award ceremony

For both boys and girls, Europe has 17 places available. However, the IOC Tripartite Commission has allocated one of Europe’s MAG quota places to the National Olympic Committee of Island, meaning there are still 16 places available on Saturday.
