Competition report of the women’s qualification at the Artistic Europeans in Cluj (ROU)

Gymnastics fans from for all over the world gathered in Romania’s second city Cluj-Napoca today to support their favourite gymnasts during the 4 subdivisions of qualifications. More than 100 gymnasts performed in front of a sold-out hall which was clearly visible in the animated evening session.

It promises to be an exciting battle for the all-around medals tomorrow.  Great Britain’s Ellie Downie had a fabulous competition here in Cluj, leading the qualification on vault and floor, and qualifying to bars and beam final as well. In the all-around she posted a massive 56.198 to lead the all-around ranking with more than a point ahead of Hungary’s Zsofia Kovacs and Germany’s Tabea Alt. 2016 junior European champion Elena Eremina (RUS) and Eythora Thorsdottir (NED) also scored within a few tenths of potential podium places.

And they will be join by Teja Belak from Slovenia and Tisha Volleman of The Netherlands.
