EC MAG Lausanne : remarkable opening ceremony

May 8, 2008

They reached the end of their dream.....like the young Arnaud, accompanied by his coach, who dreams to become a gymnastics champion and whose story was told in an original and very spectacular way by 216 gymnasts of the gymnastics clubs of the Lausanne aeria.

The organisers of Lausanne have chosen a presentation taking place the evening before the first competitions.
Under the direction of Antoinette Rayroux, responsible in charge for the ceremonies, and Patricia Hediger, artistic director and choreographer in gymnastics, more than 200 gymnasts told, through a dozen splendid scenes, the history of young Arnaud who dreams, with his coach, to become a champion of gymnastics.

With sensitivity, originality, talent, humour, dynamism, grace or strength, the various steps and facets of gymnastics were shown during a very colourful show lasting 90 minutes. During the short official ceremony, Marc Vuilleumier, president of the organising committee and Hanspeter Tschopp, president of the Swiss Gymnastics Federation have addressed the gymnasts, coaches, judges, the public and supporters. Whereas Dimitrios Dimitropoulos, president of the UEG, declared the official opening of the European Championships in Lausanne.
The show which brought together all actors, ended in apotheosis on the “Ode to joy” from Beethoven – let’s hope that the continuation of these championships will be as beautiful as the beginning.
