Closing ceremony - Let’s share ... saudade !

During EUROGYM 2012, the gymnasts had the opportunity to participate in various workshops.Naturally, the workshops were dedicated to gymnastics, but also to other activities like dance, fitness, body movements…. The traditional disciplines such as tennis, football, cycling etc. were also on the agenda of these workshops. As the weather in Coimbra remained very beautiful, the aquatic disciplines like navigation, rowing, water-polo…. etc. were very successful.
The closing ceremony was inspired by these various workshops. The stage was invaded by gymnasts and instructors who presented their sports and activities with a choreography. A great enthusiasm was visible on the faces of the gymnasts. This presentation really showed the power of sport.
The flags of the present nations, the speeches of the President of the Organising Committee, the President of the Technical Committee UEG Gymnastics For All and the Mayor of the City of Coimbra as well as the handover of the flag to the next organisers were part of this official ceremony.
The closing ceremony ended with a presentation of a Swedish group ; « See you soon, in Helsingborg ! ».
This closing ceremony well deserved its Portuguese name « saudade », which means « so we will never forget ».
It is true that the gymnasts who participated in this 8thEUROGYM will never forget this short week of joy and friendship.
