Dear friends,

Tomorrow, the best of European Aerobic will meet in Elvas. I take the opportunity of this Newsletter to address my gratitude to the Portuguese gymnastics Federation for its commitment, its competences and its exemplary support. Our athletes are received in the best conditions and this really pleases me.
This 9th European Championship, held from 6 to 8 November, coincides with the year of the 20th anniversary of the introduction of our discipline at international level. It was at the first Worlds organised in Paris / Coubertin by the FIG and the French Federation. One year later, Aerobic was part of the UEG programme.

The Aerobic elite will be well present in Elvas. I am looking forward to a very promising spectacle and I hope that it will appeal to UEG member federations that have not yet included Aerobic gymnastics in their national programme. I am encouraging them to come and join us and I am looking forward to meeting them in Portugal in November.

For these European Championships, we have registered the participation of 23 countries in the seniors’ category and 18 in the juniors. In total, 237 exercises await the 46 mobilised judges. These numbers show that the discipline is in full growth. Our Committee has prepared the event with its expertise, as it is always done, and in perfect synergy with the FIG AER TC President, Mireille Ganzin (FRA), who has always actively contributed to the satisfying development of our discipline.

And this European Championship proves it with the spectacular increase of the number of groups and mixed pairs, 20 respectively 15 in juniors’ category and 13 respectively 20 in seniors’.
For Elvas, I would not venture to pronounce any predictions as the field is deep! Let the best win and as we say in Italy, « In bocca al Lupo ! », meaning “good luck” !

Let the event be wonderful and marked by Fair-Play. A nice birthday present for the 20 years of Aerobic!

With my best regards,

Cristina Casentini

President of the AER TC
