AERONEWS! The Aerobics Gymnastics Newsletter N° 6

March 21, 2018

By Cristina Casentini, UEG AER-TC President

Dear Aerobics friends

This weekend the international Aerobics season truly begins with the World Cup event in Cantanhede.

I look for to see which gymnasts establish themselves as the top candidates for medals at World Championships in June! In this Newsletter, I’ll talk you through the competition calendar and glance an eye at the European Games next year as well.

Last week we sent out the invitation for our annual training camp which will still be held in sunny Italy, but in Latina, the Italian Gymnastic Federation National Aerobic Academy, south of Rome, this time. Join us there for an unforgettable week, 8 – 14 July!

This weekend the first of three World Cup events, in Cantanhede (POR), will kickstart the Aerobics competition season. Next month, the second World Cup stage will take place in Suzuki (JPN). These competitions provide the Aerobics gymnasts with an excellent opportunity to test their routines, their readiness and compare this to that of their rivals in the months leading up to the big competition of the year: the World Championships in Guimaraes (POR)!

One more World Cup stage is on the calendar, at the end of October in Plovdiv (BUL)!

Attention all gymnasts aged 11 to 17!

Want to learn from the best? Want to enjoy a wonderful summer holiday in sunny Italy? Doing Aerobics every day? Well, then Latina is the place-to-be for you!

From 8 to 14 July, UEG organises its annual Aerobics training camp. We offer theory and practical training sessions with UEG TC members Cristina Casentini (ITA), Vladislav Oskner (RUS) and Lefki Ferentinou (GRE). They are joined by expert coaches Marianna Mezei (ROU), Antonio Barone (ITA) and former star-turned-coached Dora Hegyi!

Of course, we never forget the coaches! All coaches that want to further develop and refine their skills, are in the expert hands of TC members Alina Dragan (ROU) and Monika Wiethoff (GER).

Interested? Contacted your Federation. Keep in mind that the deadline is 4 May!

From 1 to 3 June, all Aerobics fans will focus on Guimaraes (POR). There, the World titles for Individual men and women, Mixed pairs, Trios, Groups, Aero Dance and Aero Step are up for grabs for the senior gymnasts. With the retirement of stars like Corina Constantin, Sara Moreno, Vicente Lli, Dora Hegyi and Andreea Bogati, the field will be wide open for an exciting battle between the new seniors, and the established competitors including Hungary’s Daniel Bali, Spain’s Belen Guillemot, Italian Michela Castoldi and Davide Donati and we can’t forget the strong teams from outside Europe: Japan, Korea and Mexico.

For the younger gymnasts, the world Age Group competitions will be held the week before, also in Guimaraes. The field will be wide open for battle again between Russia’s Daria Tikhonova and Turkey’s Ayse Onbasi  and teams outside from Europe. This is where the future stars are ready to make a name for themselves.

Good luck to all participants!

As we announced in the last Newsletter, Aerobics will once again be part of the European Games. The next edition will be held 21 – 30 June 2019 in Minsk (BLR). The one and only qualifying moment for our gymnasts is during the upcoming World Championships in June. There, the 8 best European mixed pairs and groups secure their place.

Good luck to all!!!
