8th EUROGYM 2012: let’s go!

Nearly 4000 participants in 161 groups coming from 21 European countries and some 400 volunteers… These are the first figures of this 8th EUROGYM. All these people have filled the streets of the city of Coimbra in Portugal under sunny skies and in a festive atmosphere.

Today is the official opening of the 8th edition of the European Youth Festival – EUROGYM. After the last edition in Odense/Denmark two year ago, the Festival is now taking place in Coimbra, oldest University City of Portugal.

The kick-off for this week of sport, adventure, discovery, fun and exchanges was given today at 18 o’clock with the opening ceremony; the colourful spectacle announces a great programme for the coming days.

In addition to the sportive characteristic, this event also includes cultural aspects offering the opportunity to discover a country, a city but also social aspects with the numerous encounters, the sharing and the knowhow exchange that links these young people until the closing ceremony to be held next Thursday and even beyond….
