August 25, 2014

After the apparatus finals, the Russians can go home with 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in MAG, 2 gold and 1 silver medal in WAG and 1 bronze medal in TRA! GBR has won 3 gold and 2 bronze medals in MAG and 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in WAG.

Giarnni Regini-Moran from GBR confirmed his first rank after the qualifications. With a D score of 5.800 and an E-score of 8.966 it was impossible for his challenger, the Japanese Kenya Yuasa, to beat him in spite of his incredible E-score of 9.333, as he had one of the lowest D scores, 4.800. This was already the second gold medal for Giarnni after the AA final. Russian’s Nikita Nagornyy ended on the ungrateful 4th rank with 13.700, preceded by Myongwoo Lim from Korea with 13.766.

Pommel Horse
Nikita Nagornyy (RUS), the only MAG gymnast who had succeeded to qualify for all six apparatus, was one of the favourites on pommel horse. With a slight margin he won his first gold medal with 13.966, followed by Vladyslav Hryko from UKR who won silver with 13.933 and Timur Kadirov from UZB who was third.

Rings
After having won his first gold medal on Pommel horse, Nikita Nagornyy, 3rd after the qualifications, presented a great routine which allowed him to win the 2nd gold medal in a row! Vladyslav Hryko from UKR could also step again on the podium, this time winning the bronze medal. Silver went to the Chinese gymnast Yue Ma.

Vault
First after the qualifications and having already won 2 gold medals, Giarnni Regini-Moran (GBR) wanted another medal for his collection – and he did it! With a great 14.695 he won gold, followed by Yue Ma from China with 14.416 and Nikita Nagornyy who had to be satisfied this time with the bronze medal (14.383).

Parallel Bars
The Russian Nikita Nagornyy performed the most difficult routine and his good D-score allowed him to step once again on the highest step of the podium and collect his 3 gold medals! Botond Kardos from HUN won silver and Giarnni could add a bronze medal to his already impressing collection.

Horizontal Bar
The last apparatus was the lucky one for Belgium; the silver medal won by Luka Van den Keybus was the only one for BEL at the YOG. Gold went to Kenya Yuasa from Japan, bronze once again to Giarnni Regini-Moran.

Nikita and Giarnni were the most successful MAG gymnasts, winning 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze for Nikita and 3 gold and 2 bronze for Giarnni. They can be extremely proud of their great performances and we are looking forward to seeing them at the 2016 OG in Rio!

The apparatus finals in WAG were also quite promising, with, among others, Seda Tutkhalyan from Russia and Elissa Downie from GBR.

Vault
Top qualifier Elissa Downie had to be satisfied with the second rank in the finals, as the Chinese Yan Wang had much better D scores. Elissa won the silver medal followed by the Japanese Sae Miyakawa, who won bronze but had exactly the same score as Elissa.

Uneven bars
Seda Tutkhalyan secured her 2nd gold medal at these YOG thanks to her excellent D and E scores. The Italian Iosra Abdelaziz confirmed her great performances during the qualification and won the first medal for Italy, a silver one! Bronze went to the Chinese Yan Wang.

Balance beam
Yan Wang from China confirmed that she was the best on the beam; the Brazilian gymnast Flavia Lopes Saraiva, who was only 5th after the qualification presented a stunning performance winning her silver. Bronze went to Elissa Downie, the third medal for her!

Floor
The last apparatus for the girls and once again a competition between Seda and Elissa.
Gold went to the Brazilian Flavia Lopes Saraiva, Seda won silver slightly behind.
Elissa made the same mistake as already during the qualifications, but as she had the highest D score she could secure bronze.

Seda can therefore go home with 2 gold and 1 silver medal, Elissa with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The UEG expresses its sincerest congratulations to all gymnasts for their excellent performances.

Some more medals for the European gymnasts can certainly be expected when the RG gymnasts start their competitions on Tuesday!
