‘Gymnastics for Fun’ seminar aims to put the fun in gymnastics activities for all

November 1, 2017

23 participants from 5 countries participated in the second edition of UEG’s seminar in Loughborough (GBR)

From 20 to 22 October, British Gymnastics hosted the second edition of the ‘Gymnastics for Fun’ seminar. This Seminar, launched two years ago, is an exciting opportunity to increase knowledge and ideas of how to create and develop an attractive Gymnastics for All programme. It includes a variety of lectures, practical sessions, discussions and group studies to share own experiences and good practice and also learn from others. The main goal is to get more children and youth into Gymnastics for All and to get more children and youth to stay longer in Gymnastics.

The activities were based on one important theme: how to put more "F" in Gymnastics: Fun, Fitness and Fundamentals! This topic covered gymnastics teaching skills: what to do and what not to do; basic gymnastics movements; what is Fun for my gymnasts and how to develop Gymnastics in my club and in my country? British Gymnastics also introduced their successful programme Disability Gymnastics.

The 23 participants, from the UK, France, Sweden, Norway and Iceland, were guided by UEG’s Technical Committee President Alberto Claudino and TC member Heidi Marie Taksdal. The main instructor was Keith Russel (CAN), member of FIG Anti-doping/Medical/Scientific Commission.

Thank you to all participants and instructors for your valuable input. A big thank you to British Gymnastics for being a perfect host. The local staff was very supportive and professional and the facilities were really great.
